The stand is good, but it's a bit unstable (wobbles when pushed), but it will fall towards you, not away from you (so it won't fall far), the mouse shelf is covered with a material like faux leather, the angle of inclination can be adjusted for both the laptop and the shelf. An 18-inch laptop doesn't fit perfectly, but it's not a major issue.
